Q&A Forums
Don't Email Me Policy
Students are used to emailing their professor when they have course-related questions. Here's what I say in class.
When you have a course-related question, your first intuition may be to email me, BUT DON'T.
Students usually look confused when I say it. I want that confusion because I really want to make a point that I don't want to be bombarded with emails after emails asking about the same course-related questions by multiple students. Implementing the Q&A Forums really did reduced the redundant emails I receive from students and made my life easier.
When Students Have Questions
① Go to the Q&A ForumsStudents must first go to the Q&A Forums that I set up in my Canvas course site (Figure 1). There are three forums:

② Look for Answers in the ForumsStudents must check the forums to see if their questions have already been addressed by other students.
Chances are their questions have already been addressed by other students and answered by me in the forums. Problem solved!
③ Post a QuestionIf their questions have not already been addressed there, students can post their questions to the forums. I check the forums once a day, so their questions are answered within 24 hours.

Daily Recent Canvas Notifications
Also, once a day, Canvas LML sends me an email report about all students' activities on Canvas (Figure 3), so I don't really need to check the Q&A Forums every day unless the report says that questions were posted to the forums.
